What to expect on your wedding morning in Punta Cana?

After working with hundreds of brides here in the Dominican Republic, I can tell you that every wedding morning is unique and special. But I also know that if you’ve never been through this before, the whole “getting ready” process can feel a little mysterious.

What happens? How long does it take? What should you do?

So today, I want to walk you through exactly what happens from the moment I arrive to the moment you walk down the aisle. Think of this as a little preview of your wedding morning so you can relax and enjoy every second of it!

I arrive early to set up

I always get to your location well before we start. If we’re working at a hotel or Airbnb, I’ll be there at least one hour early. If we’re at a venue like Kukua, Jellyfish, or Huracan Cafe, I arrive at least 30 minutes before. Why? Because I need time to set up my space. I organize my chair, my lighting, all my makeup and hair products, my brushes, my tools… everything needs to be ready.

And honestly? I also like to grab a cup of coffee and connect with the energy of the day. It really makes a difference. I live an active life, I spend a lot of time at the beach with my kids, so I know how much those first quiet minutes of the morning matter before everything gets moving. By the time you walk in, everything is prepared and waiting for you. BTW, if you’re still deciding where to get ready, I wrote a whole guide about choosing the perfect bridal suite in Punta Cana that might help you!

Welcome to your wedding morning!

When you and your girls arrive, I give everyone a moment to settle in. Unpack what you brought, look around the space, pour a mimosa, take it all in! This is your morning, and there’s no need to rush. Once everyone is comfortable, I introduce myself and my team. Then I explain step by step how the process is going to work.

We always start with the bridesmaids first, and the bride goes in the middle or one before the last. I know it might sound a little surprising that you won’t go last, but trust me: this timeline is designed so that everything flows perfectly and everyone looks amazing for the ceremony. I also ask to see your wedding dress and accessories. The jewelry, the veil, the shoes. I want to connect with the style of your wedding so that your hair and makeup match the whole picture.

If we’ve already had a trial session, we have a plan in place. But I still like to see everything together on the actual day.

I know your photographer

Here’s something my brides always appreciate: after so many years working in Punta Cana, I know pretty much every photographer in the area. I know which ones like to start early, which ones arrive a little later, who begins with the decor shots, and who goes straight to the getting-ready photos. And honestly, as someone who also works in front of the camera myself, not only as a makeup artist but sometimes as a model, I know how important it is to have your look at its best exactly when the lens is pointing at you. This helps me a lot when it comes to organizing my schedule. I can make sure your hair and makeup are at the perfect stage when the photographer is ready to capture those beautiful getting-ready moments. No rushing, no stress.

Music is a must

I can’t work without music. I always bring my speaker and put on a playlist to set the mood.

Over the years, I’ve created a whole collection of playlists, and many of them remind me of a different wedding. It’s really special to me. If you have your own playlist, amazing, send it to me! If not, don’t worry. I have plenty of good music to keep everyone relaxed and having fun while we work.

How we work as a team

When I work with my team on larger bridal parties, we have a system that works really well. I usually start with the hairstyles while my girls begin with the makeup. Then we switch, one by one, until everyone is done.

We’ve done this so many times that we work very fast without ever losing quality. We once had 45 girls to get ready at the same time, and every single one was done on schedule. We never run late. That’s something I can guarantee.

Your turn, beautiful!

When it’s time for the bride, I usually start with your makeup first and then move to your hairstyle. I take my time with you because this is the most important look of the day. Every detail matters. And don’t worry about your look fading before the ceremony. I use products and techniques that are made for our tropical climate.

Your makeup will last through the heat, the emotions, and even the dancing later that night! I personally only trust products that do more than one thing: sun protection, a lifting effect, a natural glow, a little tone. Because that’s how I approach my own daily makeup too. Quick, on point, and nothing heavy. Your skin needs to breathe, especially in this climate.

Touch-ups and getting dressed

Once everyone’s hair and makeup are done, the photographer usually takes the group for some photos. That’s when my team and I take a quick lunch break. But we’re not leaving!

After the photos, we meet everyone back in the room for touch-ups. We refresh the curls, fix anything that needs attention, and make sure every single person looks perfect for the ceremony. Then comes the best part: helping you get dressed.

We help you put on your dress, your accessories, your veil. We’re there for every little detail. And we always make sure to capture some of those beautiful getting-ready moments as well. Before we leave, we do a final check on everyone. Nobody walks out of that room without looking absolutely stunning.

Staying after the ceremony

Usually, my job is done once you walk toward the ceremony. But some brides ask me to stay, and I’m happy to do that. I can stay for touch-ups during or after the ceremony, especially because emotions run high and some brides feel more comfortable knowing I’m there.

Even though my makeup stays put even if you jump in the pool (yes, that happens!), just knowing I’m around gives some brides that extra peace of mind. I can also change your look for the party. Maybe you want to switch from hair down to an updo? Or go from a soft lip to a bold red? We can do that! It’s a fun way to have a fresh look for the reception and dancing. This is available for an extra fee, but if it will make you feel better, I think it’s absolutely worth it.

More than a makeup artist

I always say that my job is not only about creating a beautiful hairstyle and makeup. It’s about being there for you. On your wedding morning, I’m like your psychologist, your best friend, your sister. I can feel when a bride is nervous, even if she’s smiling. I know when to stay quiet and give her space. I know when to tell a funny story to break the tension. I know when to order a calming tea, or even a shot of tequila! And sometimes, I know when to just cry with her so she can let it all out. I once called my massage therapist to the bridal suite when a bride was super stressed. Whatever you need to feel calm and beautiful, I will make it happen.

And then… the ceremony

Once everyone is dressed, accessories are in place, and the veil is perfect, it’s time.

You walk out of that room looking like the most beautiful version of yourself. And that’s the moment that makes everything worth it for me. After you leave, we pack up, clean our space, and go.

But that feeling of watching a bride walk toward her ceremony? That stays with me.
