The story of Olga Montilla Beauty Studio & School

As I walk through my studio each morning, I’m filled with a sense of pride and gratitude. What started as a dream seven years ago has turned into a beauty sanctuary where every client becomes part of our extended family.

I started teaching and then this happened

I never imagined I’d be running my own beauty school. It all started with one aspiring makeup artist who asked to be my assistant and learn from me. Despite being relatively new to the profession myself, I took a chance on her – and today, she’s successfully running her own studio in New York. That experience sparked something in me. More students came, each with their own dreams, and I discovered that teaching wasn’t just something I could do – it was something I loved.

When I decided to open my own studio, I wanted it to be more than just a salon – I wanted it to be a sanctuary. Everyone who walks through our doors says they can feel the positive energy, and that’s because I’ve put my whole heart into creating this space.

It’s my little art home, and while it might not be the biggest studio in Punta Cana, it’s perfectly designed to create beautiful moments and transformations.

Tour of our Beauty Studio in Punta Cana

Our main area features a long table where I conduct makeup classes and work with clients. The lighting here is specifically designed to ensure perfect makeup application and stunning photos. This is where the magic begins!

We have two dedicated hairstyling stations equipped with everything needed for creating perfect bridal looks. Whether you’re dreaming of romantic beach waves or elegant updos, we’ve got you covered. There’s also a hair washing station for those who want to start their transformation from scratch.

The lounge zone is one of my favorite spots. With its comfortable seating and coffee table, it’s where bridesmaids can relax with champagne and snacks while waiting for their turn. We can comfortably accommodate up to ten people for bridal parties – it’s amazing how cozy yet spacious the studio feels during these celebrations.

One of our unique features is our bridal dress showroom, featuring exclusive waiting collections by designer Patricia Martinez. It’s perfect for brides who want to coordinate their makeup and hair with their dress style.

For complete relaxation, we have a massage table where our professional masseuse can help calm pre-wedding jitters. Sometimes, all a nervous bride needs is a moment of pampering to feel centered again.

Our manicure and pedicure space ensures you can get completely ready for your special day in one place. It’s all about creating a seamless, stress-free experience.

The centerpiece of our studio is a stunning wall painting by my dear friend, Argentinian artist Mavi. Everyone says the woman in the painting looks like me, but she’s actually our studio muse whom I’ve named Lola. She represents the beauty and creativity we strive to bring out in each client.

Creating complete looks: my philosophy

One of the questions I’m often asked is whether I prefer doing makeup or hair. The truth is, I love creating complete looks. There’s something special about being able to envision and execute an entire transformation. When two different stylists work on hair and makeup separately, they don’t always share the same vision. That’s why I’ve trained my team to follow my approach – we create cohesive looks where every element complements the others.

Working in Punta Cana’s tropical climate has taught me exactly what works and what doesn’t. For example, with fine hair, I often recommend using Bellami Hair extensions to help hold curls and add volume that lasts through the humidity. We stay current with trends – right now, the Kim Kardashian-inspired high-massive bun is very popular, and classic Hollywood waves never go out of style.

When it comes to veils, I always consider the wind factor. A short veil might stand vertical in strong beach breezes, so I often recommend longer, heavier options for beach weddings. I personally stay with my brides until they walk down the aisle, ensuring everything is perfect until the last moment.

My learning journey

Even after years in the industry, I never stop learning. I regularly take classes from top stylists – most recently in New York – to learn new techniques and stay current with trends. I work with magazines, blogs, and designers to keep expanding my artistic vision. This continuous growth helps me see the unique beauty in each client and bring out their best features.

In 2024, we’ve celebrated six years of the studio and school, and I’ve launched my own brush line. These brushes are made in Russia and are designed based on my years of experience – they’re everything I wished for in a brush but could never find.

For me, this studio is more than a business – it’s a dream come true. Whether I’m creating a perfect wedding look, teaching students, or developing new products, I put my whole heart into everything I do. I’m not just a makeup artist – I’m a friend, a calming presence, and sometimes even a therapist to my clients.
